The Essence Of A Parent
Before I lay the first stone of parenting nuggets, let us get understanding of the essence of parenting. This would probably guide us through the incredible roller coaster of the parenting journey.
What Is The Essence Of A Parent?
I will be friendly and talkative by describing what a parent is and then conclude with the process of parenting.
Good parenting describes the following:
Protection: She keeps her children healthy and safe. Keeping children safe, healthy and providing basic needs are crucial survival needs.
Preparation: Preparing children for independence adulthood. You are not raising a child, you are raising an adult. As a parent you make choices and act in deliberate way to help shape your children into people with character, respect, and a sense of responsibility, motivation and skills to help them to be both successful as a child and as adult. The preparation is done through outings, togetherness – playing games together and living life together.
Leading: Teaching values that align with the parent’s culture. Your actions speak louder than words. Indeed, leading by example is more effective than lecturing.
Loving: Raising children can be challenging and peppered with difficult times. When your relationship is rooted in love, you have a bond that remains strong and can bring you together any time you disagree and argue. Loving them nurtures them and helps them thrive. Parents got to create strong parent-child bonds to infuse a meaningful parenting.
What Then Is Parenting?
From effort to describe the essence of a parent, I will sum up parenting as
- The process of raising a child from birth to independent adulthood.
 - Facilitating the upbringing of a child through all stages of development.
 - Fulfilling the parental responsibilities that accompany child raising
 - The act of caring for children rather than the biological connection to a child.
 - Establishing a healthy environment as the child grows – taking actions to ensure social development and education that align with your values.
 - Providing a financial stable home life (This is not the same as being wealthy).
 - Adjusting to the changing needs of children as they grow and develop.

Conclusion
Are you making a difference in the way that you are raising your children? Remember always that every Child Matters. We must aim to reduce the levels of abuse, neglect, substance misuse, teenage pregnancy, ill-health and other issues that can prevent children from reaching their full potential. A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children. Develop your children to be able to soar on their own in future, a better steward of your personality – a better you will be a perfect inheritance.
