• Instead of buying your children all the things you had, you should teach them all the things you were never taught. Material wears out but knowledge stays.
• The attitude you have as a parent is what your children will learn more than what you tell them. They don’t remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are.
• Raise your children with the strength to know what they stand for, yet the humility to listen, learn and grow.
• It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings.
• You cannot teach children to behave better by making them feel worse. When children feel better they behave better.
• Your child is learning how to treat people with respect and kindness, by watching you. How you treat them, is how they will treat the world.
• When your children desire to talk to you and share their problems with you, stop everything and listen to them. There is nothing more important than that.
• If you really want your children to respect you, let them speak. Give them safe space to say what and how they really feel without fear of how your pride will react. It doesn’t matter if they are always right or good. It matters that they are allowed to be real with you.
• Treat a child as though he already is the person he’s capable of becoming.
• You do not have to make your children into wonderful people. You just have to remind them that they are wonderful people.
